Massimo Angileri represented Malta at the European Championship finals in Croatia as the experienced official was included among the match officials at the continental finals.
Angileri was handed four appointments by the European governing body LEN in the tournament.
His first appointment was as match referee for the game between Slovakia and Slovenia along with Eurico Silva, of Portugal.
Angileri was also in charge as referee for Monday’s group match between the Netherlands and Slovenia.
Apart from his duties as referee, he was also handed an appointment as VAR referee during the group match between Romania and Slovenia and the play-off between Slovakia and Slovenia on Saturday.
For Angileri, this is his second experience in a European Championship finals.
Five years ago he was also included in the list of match officials for the continental finals that were held in Barcelona, Spain.
“It is always a great honour for me to participate in such a prestigious completion, which is one of the three biggest waterpolo tournaments in our sport after the Olympic Games and the World Championship,” Angileri told the Times of Malta.
“When Croatia was playing home last game against Montenegro the pool was full with around 3,000 spectators which was an amazing experience only to be there.
“The tournament is reaching its decisive stage and I am sure that I will be given more appointments by LEN to take charge of the upcoming matches.”
