Croatia’s Prosinecki named coach of Montenegro football team

Former Croatia international Robert Prosinecki on Friday was named as the head coach of Montenegro’s national team, according to the Balkan nation’s football association (FSCG).

Prosinecki was unanimously approved for the post by the association’s executive committee and signed a one-year contract, FSCG said in a statement.

The former midfielder — who played for Croatia when the country finished third  at the 1998 World Cup — is taking over from Miodrag Radulovic.

The 55-year-old will make his debut on March 21 during a friendly against Belarus.

Prosinecki worked as an assistant with the Croatian national squad and later had stints coaching in Azerbaijan and Bosnia.

Before beginning his coaching career, Prosinecki played for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla.

He also won the European Cup with Red Star Belgrade in Serbia in 1991.
