Malta international provided two assists in Notts County’s Tuesday win over Newport.
Days after being named January’s League Two Player of the Month and breaking England’s fourth-tier record of assists, Jodi Jones reached the 20 assists mark on Tuesday.
The Malta international set up two goals for Macaulay Langstaff as they defeated Newport County 3-1.
These three points propelled Notts County to seventh on 47 points.
Watch: Jodi Jones’ 18 assists prior to Tuesday’s game.
Prior to the game, Jones spoke to Sky Sports where he was hailed as the ‘assists king’ of League Two.
“I’m not too sure how it’s happened to be honest,” he told Sky Sports after picking up the League Two Player of the Month award.
“I can only thank my team-mates. The way we work and the things we do allow me to get the ball and put it into dangerous areas. When you’ve got players like McGoldrick, Langstaff, Crowley and Nemane getting on the end of them, you know you’ve got a chance of getting loads of assists.”
His 20 assists puts him at the top of the list in England while Jones comes out on top when compared to players from the top-five European Leagues – Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga and Ligue 1.
Representing Malta
Sky Sports delved into the international career of Jones who has now represented Malta in 12 matches, recording one assist in a 2-1 win over Israel during a 2022 international friendly.
“When I left Coventry, I wasn’t playing too much and Malta were sending me a few messages. They were supporting me and wanted me to play,” he says.
“I have been really enjoying it and playing against England was an amazing experience, especially to play in my home city.”
This Saturday, Notts County are in a for a stern test as they face fourth-place Wrexham with whom they battled during last year’s National League campaign.
