Malta player helped Lexington win home opener in USL League One.
Maltese midfielder Yannick Yankam turned out as Lexington SC’s hero after scoring the all-important goal which handed them a narrow 1-0 win over Chattanooga RW, on Friday night.
The former Birkirkara captain was deployed from the start as a pivot in a 4-2-3-1 for the second game in a row as Lexington SC were playing their first home game of their USL League One campaign.
Yankam, who became the first active senior UEFA international to play in the USL League One last week, fired home from close-range late in the game to open his account in the United States.
Last week’s debut performance against Northern Colorado had earned Yankam a spot in the USL League One’s Team of the Week as well.
Next Tuesday, Yankam’s Lexington SC will suit up for their US Open Cup debut as they take on Vermont Green FC.
