Malta remain without points after six group outings.
BELGIUM 3-1 MALTA
Romeo Vermant 40; Jarne Steuckers 47; Kazeem Olaigbe 90 (B); Andrea Zammit 62 pen. (M).
Malta lost its six group game in the U-21’s European Championship qualifications after falling to Belgium, on Thursday.
Coach Ivan Woods could not count on the suspended Mattia Veselji while he handed the U-21’s debut to Western Sydney Wanderers midfield Dylan Scicluna.
Belgium forged ahead through Romeo Vermant who made the most from a corner-kick situation when heading home past Hugo Sacco.
After the change of ends, Belgium doubled their lead through Jarne Steuckers who beat Sacco with a low drive.
Malta pulled one back from the penalty spot when Basil Tuma was floored by Zeno Van Den Bosch.
Captain Andrea Zammit converted for his sixth goal in 19 games in this category.
Belgium did find a third when Kazeem Olaigbe beat Sacco after a brilliant solo effort.
Malta return in action on Monday when they host Slovakia in an international friendly at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
