Hibernians and Birkirkara will contend next Saturday’s Assikura Women’s Knockout title after advancing from their hard-fought semi-finals, last Friday.
The Paolites defeated holders Swieqi United, in a repeat of last year’s final, with an extra-time goal scored by Kayleigh Chetcuti who capitalised on an assist by captain Nicole Sciberras.
Swieqi, on their part, finished the match with ten players after Venezuela international Rafanny was given the marching orders after denying an obviously goal scoring opportunity to Alexis Espitia in extra-time.
Meanwhile, league champions Birkirkara were given a run for their money by Bottom Four representatives Valletta.
The Stripes had to wait until the 74th minute to break the deadlock with an unfortunate own goal recorded by Valletta’s Georgiana Mifsud.
