The relegation battle will take centre stage on Friday evening as four teams will be looking to avoid joining Valletta, Sirens and Gudja United in the Challenge League next season.
The final MatchDay of the 2023-24 season will reach fever pitch on Friday evening with four teams battling it out to avoid finishing in 11th place in the standings, with all four matches kicking off simultaneously at 7pm.
At the moment, three points separate eighth-placed Balzan from Mosta who are currently sitting fourth from bottom.
Thus the result of every match scheduled for Friday could have a major bearing on who will lose their top-flight status.
Balzan need just a point from their match against Marsaxlokk to assure themselves of another season in the top flight.
The Reds have picked up two points from their last three matches but will be wary that a defeat against Marsaxlokk could put them in jeopardy of ending up in a relegation play-off if they finish level on points with Gżira United and Mosta.
Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, have nothing to play for as they are already assured of finishing fourth in the standings, and are now hopeful either Floriana or Sliema Wanderers lift the FA Trophy so that they can qualify for the UEFA Conference League.
Santa Lucia will ascertain themselves of another season in the Premier League with victory over Birkirkara at the Centenary Stadium.
The Saints, buoyed by last week’s 2-1 win over Gżira United, are just a place above the relegation zone, one point clear of fourth-from-bottom Mosta and should they manage to overcome the Stripes they will ensure they finish above the bottom four places in the standings.
Mosta must win at all costs their ‘Derby of the North’ against neighbours Naxxar Lions to ensure they remain in the top-flight for another season.
The Blues picked up four points from their last two matches and have no margin of error if they are to move out of the relegation zone and save their status.
Gżira United are the other team in this relegation battle and are currently two points off the drop zone.
They complete their league commitments with a clash against Floriana and the Maroons will be assured of avoiding the drop with victory this evening, while a point would be enough if either Mosta or Sta Lucia fail to win their respective matches.
The final Match Day of the season will be completed tomorrow when Ħamrun Spartans will celebrate their title triumph when they face Hibernians at the National Stadium.
