Swieqi United women’s team have already started to assemble their squad ahead of the upcoming 2024/2025 season, confirming the renewals of two key foreigners.
The Owls announced that they will keep Brazilian goalkeeper Patricia Araujo for another year, having joined the club last season to replace Cynthia Konlan, now in Saudi Arabia.
Araujo embarked in Maltese football having been on the books of Brazil giants Corinthians.
Last Sunday, Araujo was named as goalkeeper of the year during the Malta Football Players Association’s awards.
The other player that has extended her stay at the Maltese club is Rafanny Mendoza, a Venezuela international.
The experienced defender will be staying for a third season at the club having established herself as one of the best players in the domestic league.
Last month, she was part of the Venezuela’s first team during the double-header friendlies against Panama.
In the 2022/2023 season, Mendoza was part of the Swieqi side that beat Hibernians to lift the knock-out trophy, the club’s first major silverware in women’s football.
