Melita FC have handed a new one-year contract to prolific striker Andre Carlos.

The newly-crowned Challenge League champions have already started planning for life in the Premier League next season.

The 2024-25 campaign is likely to provide for Melita a far sterner challenge as the number of teams in the top flight is going down to 12 teams while a new format, similar to the Apertura and Clausura Championships in South America, is set to be used.

Coach Clive Mizzi, who has been reconfirmed at the club for another season, has already started working on the squad for the upcoming campaign and his main objective was to quickly secure the future of the prolific forward.

The Brazilian striker was one of the catalysts of Melita’s rise to the Premier League this season as his goals propelled the team towards promotion to the top-flight of Maltese football.

Andre Carlos enjoyed an impressive season with Melita in his first season in Maltese football as he managed to find the net 16 times to finish as the league’s leading scorer while also helping the club to be crowned as Challenge League champions.

Added to that, the Brazilian found the net four times in the FA Trophy, all during one match when Melita were beaten by Qala Saints 7-5 in the Preliminary Round.

Andre Carlos is one of several promising players in the squad who are set to be retained by Melita this season as the club’s top hierarchy are working hard to keep hold of their most talented players with new contracts.
