Former Malta youth women’s coach Vince Galea was appointed Birkirkara women’s coach a club statement confirmed on Friday.
“Birkirkara F.C. is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Vince Galea as the new women’s head coach. Please join us in wishing Mr. Galea the very best of luck with our club,” the statement read.
“Mr Galea brings a wealth of experience to the position, having previously served as the U17 women’s National Team coach and technical coordinator for the Girls Academy at the Malta Football Association (MFA). Additionally, he was the Head Coach at Sliema Academy. We are confident that his expertise and leadership will greatly benefit our women’s team.”
The new Stripes coach comes from history within the Malta Women’s National team setups, having been appointed as the Women’s U17 Coach and Women’s Technical Coordinator in 2023, a new role aimed at strengthening the unified approach in the women’s national teams in the same way as done across the male teams.
Galea will have big shoes to fill after replacing title-winning coach Jose Borg who stepped down after two seasons at the club, taking on the men’s team for part of last season in the BOV Premier League as well.
He will now take over a team in a celebratory mood after winning a domestic treble this season – winning their 12th league title, the Assikura Women’s Knockout and Super Cup. They will also be representing Malta in the upcoming edition of the women’s Champions League having been granted the UEFA license for the 2024/2025 season.
