Birkirkara FC have announced that they have appointed Stefano De Angelis as their new first-team coach.
The Stripes have been looking for a new head coach since the end of the season after the club parted ways with Jose Borg.
“Birkirkara FC is thrilled to welcome Mr. Stefano De Angelis as our new Head Coach!,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“After a thorough selection process, De Angelis emerged as the ideal candidate to lead our team into an exciting new chapter of revival.”
Birkirkara have been scouring the market in the past few weeks to identify the right man to kickstart a new technical project at the club.
Their choice fell on Italian coach De Angelis who has been a familiar face to Maltese football in recent years as for the past two seasons he served in the role of assistant coach at Ħamrun Spartans, where he worked with Branko Nisevic and Luciano Zauri.
During the past two years, De Angelis played his part in helping the team win the Premier League title.
However last month, the Spartans announced that Zauri would not be extending his contract with the Spartans and the Reds decided to appoint Alessandro Zinnari as their new first-team coach.
Zinnari agreed with the Spartans’ top hierarchy to bring his technical staff and the Malta champions had no option but to cut the ties with De Angelis and the other members of the coaching staff.
De Angelis was soon approached by Birkirkara who offered him a contract and the Italian accepted this new challenge.
