Thane Micallef is back at Valletta FC as first-team coach, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Valletta FC’s new hierarchy, now under the charge of new president Claudio Grech, have decided to hand back the reins of the first team to Micallef.
The decision is a remarkable turnaround at Valletta FC as the Citizens had decided to sack Micallef from the job last September.
The decision to bring Micallef back to the club is a clear sign that Valletta FC are keen to build their team on their young talent and the former Gudja United coach fits perfectly for this job.
In fact, Micallef is known to hold the mantra of nurturing young talent and in his first year at Valletta FC he tried to build a team around young players.
However, a poor start to his second season in charge proved costly as he lost the job in September and since then Valletta never recovered as they went on to suffer a shock relegation last May.
Now back at Valletta, Micallef will be able to count on several young products at the club who last season managed to win the MFA Youth League when they defeat Mosta on the final game of the campaign.
