Malta international midfielder Shaun Dimech is back in Maltese football with Birkirkara after he was forced to part ways with Bosnian club Borja Banja Luka.
Last month, Dimech decided to pursue his career abroad and agreed a deal with Bosnian champions Borja Banja Luca.
However, the completion of the transfer hit a snag after problems with the necessary paperwork to be registered in the Transfer Market System.
That situation saw Dimech not included in Borja Banja Luka’s first-team squad for their Champions League qualifiers.
Additionally, the club has brought in some new players in the squad, making it even harder for Dimech to force his way into the team.
At this point, he opened talks with Bosnian club to rescind his contract and be granted his release.
Once he had the release in his hand he decided to return to Maltese football and over the weekend he agreed terms to sign for Birkirkara.
At Birkirkara, Dimech is hopeful of reviving his career after a disappointing 2023-24 season which saw him struggle for first-team football with his hometown club Valletta which ended up being relegated to the Challenge League.
