French Ligue 1 club Marseille announced Monday the arrival on loan of Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
“Olympique de Marseille are delighted to announce the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur FC. The 28-year-old midfielder has joined the club on loan with an option to buy after passing his medical,” the club said in a statement on its website.
Denmark international Hojbjerg has 81 caps and played in all four of his country’s matches at Euro 2024, where they were eliminated at the last-16 stage by hosts Germany.
The 28-year-old began his professional career at German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich before moving to England when he signed for Southampton in 2016.
After four years on the south coast, Hojbjerg joined Tottenham in August 2020 and went on to make 184 appearances for the club.
Marseille have not specified the financial terms, but several sports media have reported a compulsory purchase option of around 13 million euros ($14 million).
Hojbjerg is the latest arrival in a busy close season for Marseille and joins midfielder Ismael Kone, defender Lilian Brassier and former-Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, as well as new coach Roberto De Zerbi, at the Stade Velodrome.
