Young Maltese forward Lexine Farrugia has taken another important step in her career after joining Italian champions Roma Women on a three-year deal.
The 17-year-old forward was on the books of Sampdoria’s Primavera team and has caught the eye with her impressive displays for the Genoa-based side.
“I am officially a Giallorossa,” Farrugia wrote on her Instagram account.
“Words cannot describe how happy and honoured I am to have signed with this prestigious club AS Roma Women.
“Thank you to my family and my representatives Business Eleven for the support, could not have done this without you.
“This is another dream that comes true.”
Farrugia has enjoyed a very impressive 2023-24 season with Sampdoria Primavera. The young forward managed to score a few goals against several Italian top teams, including a brace against Roma last December. She was also part of the U-17’s team that featured in the Scudetto play-offs as well.
Roma were following Farrugia’s development since last year and were keen to sign her last January.
Farrugia penned a professional contract with the Italian champions for years and has already conducted her pre-season with Roma Women’s senior squad, a clear sign that her new club see her as an important player for the future.
Farrugia’s talents did not go unnoticed with Malta women’s national team coach Manuela Tesse handing the young forward her senior debut in the Euro 2025 home qualifier against Northern Ireland at the Centenary Stadium.
It is understood that Farrugia will be starting the campaign with the Primavera side of Roma, which is regarded as one of the best youth sectors in Italian football, but it is not excluded that she could be involved with the Roma’s senior team in the Italian Serie A Femminile this season.
