Maltese para swimmer Maja Theuma made her debut at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris when she took part in the 50 metres freestyle heats at the La Defense Arena on Thursday.
Theuma was on the starting pad of Heat One and completed the one-lap race in one minute and 13.10 seconds.
The Maltese para swimmer finished last in her heat. Chinaâs Yuyan Jiang won the race in 32.70 seconds ahead of Canadaâs Shelby Newkirk who clocked a time of 34.15 seconds.
Brazils Mayara Do Amaral Petzold touched home in third place in 35.95.
The other swimmers in this heat were Chinaâs Si Zhu (35.95), Colombiaâs Mariana Guerrero Martinez (36.25) and Germanyâs Verena Schott (38.92).
For Theuma this was her only event at the 2024 Paralympic Games.
Team Malta will again be in action on September 1 when Antonio Flores competes in the Para Athletics.
On Sunday, Flores will be involved in the 100 metres heats.
