Matchday 3’s top match did not produce any goals as Sliema Wanderers and Hibernians took a point apiece.
The two teams had won their opening two matches, heading into this tie with a perfect record.
As expected, the match was fairly-balanced but not short of chances with both Sliema and Hibs creating opportunities to snatch the three points.
While both teams are now on seven points, Sliema remain the only team that has kept a clean sheet in every single outing.
The Blues almost pulled ahead after just four minutes when Samuel Gomes had a low drive blocked by Hugo Sacco inside the small area.
Alex Bruno, of Hibernians, on his part, squandered a brilliant chance to break the deadlock for the Paolites when his curling effort sailed over the bar just in front of the Sliema goalkeeper.
Kleiton tried his luck with a backheel from a corner-kick but Sliema’s Kevin Agu was alert to avert the danger.
Agu was forced into action again, this time by Giannis Bastianos whose freekick from the edge of the area was diverted into corner.
Federico Falcone tested Agu with a shot from tight angle as Hibernians continued to pile the pressure on the Blues.
Brazilian forward Alex Bruno let fly an effort from long-range but once again, could not beat Agu.
Four minutes before half-time, Bastianos missed a glorious sitter when Alex Bruno’s shot hit the crossbar before the Greek player failed to slot the ball into the net from point-blank range.
Sliema’s Beerman tried to surprise Sacco from the edge of the area but his effort glanced past the Maltese goalkeeper’s goal.
On the 73rd minute, Falcone produced a brilliant volley but Agu managed to deny the Argentine forward before Khevin Fraga hit a long-range effort but could not beat Agu.
Five minutes from full-time, substitute Jurgen Degabriele was denied by a top-notch save by Agu who had to stretch his hands and block the Malta forward’s effort.
