RB Leipzig have signed defender Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord until 2029 in a deadline day deal reportedly worth 25 million euros ($28 million) on Friday.
Leipzig announced the deal through their social media channels, with Geertruida replacing the Saudi Arabia-bound Mohamed Simakan, who is close to moving to Al Nassr on a deal reportedly worth 45 million.
Geertruida, who has made 11 appearances for the Netherlands, can play at centre-back or at right-back. He had been linked with a move to Premier League side Aston Villa before Friday’s transfer was made public.
The Rotterdam-born defender, 24, came through Feyenoord’s junior ranks and played 283 games for the club, scoring 39 goals.
“Finally RB Leipzig,” Geertruida said in a statement, adding “it was my wish to switch to the Red Bulls.
“Now I’m a part of it here and I can be together with the other lads on the pitch.”
Leipzig brought in teenage Norway forward Antonio Nusa to replace the Barcelona-bound Dani Olmo, as well as extending a loan for Xavi Simons and bringing in Arthur Vermeeren on loan.
