Swieqi United forward Salamatu Abdulai could not have dreamt of a better night after inspiring Ghana to a victory over New Zealand in their final U-20 women’s World Cup.
Abdulai, who is now in her third season with the Owls, was in the starting formation as the Black Princesses faced New Zealand in their final group game.
The Swieqi forward put Ghana ahead on the 59th minute, tapping home from a corner-kick situation.

New Zealand levelled terms five minutes past the hour mark but Ghana went on to wrap up their World Cup commitments with a win, scoring twice in the closing stages.
Abdulai scored Ghana’s second goal, beating New Zealand with a lofted header from close-range.

Ghana exit the tournament having lost against Austria and Japan in their opening couple of games.
Abdulai has not featured in Swieqi’s first two league matches against Hibernians and Valletta, but will be expected to be available for selection when Dorianne Theuma’s side take on Birkirkara this week.
