BIRKIRKARA 4-1 SWIEQI UNITED
Erica Bispo 10; Yuna Hazekawa 47, 65; Alishia Cassar 56 (B); Karima Abdulai 90 (S).
Birkirkara made a statement of intent after easing past rivals Swieqi United, in Friday’s women’s league direct tie.
The Stripes, at the back of their UEFA Women’s Champions League commitments, produced a commanding performance to win their third consecutive match.
On the other hand, Swieqi have now lost two of their opening three defeats, both against title contenders in Hibernians and Birkirkara.
They are on three points, having won against Valletta in their second outing.
Birkirkara opened the score after 10 minutes through Erica Bispo, on her first league start.
The Stripes, then, scored three more goals in less than 20 minutes between the 47th and 65th minute.
Japanese midfielder Yuna Hazekawa grabbed two goals while Alishia Cassar, who is now the club’s captain in the absence of Stephania Farrugia, scored the other goal.
Karima Abdulai scored Swieqi’s consolation goal in stoppage time.
