André Schembri steps down as Anagennisi Derynia head coach in Cyprus

André Schembri has resigned from his post as coach of Anagennisi Derynia in the second-tier of Cyprus, on Sunday.

The resignation comes one day after Anagennisi Derynia fell to a 3-2 defeat to Chalkanoras, slipping to the bottom of the table with just three points to show for their efforts after six games.

“After much thought and reflection, earlier this evening I informed the Board of Anagennisi Deryneias Football Club that I will be stepping down as Head Coach with immediate effect,” Schembri wrote on his social media.

“This was a difficult decision, knowing that I’ve given my all to support our players, staff and wider community. However, I feel that at this juncture, a different direction would best serve the organization and its future aspirations.”

“I would like to thank the Board for their constant trust and support in me, and wish them all the best for their future.”

In his six games in charge of the team, Schembri oversaw Anagennisi Derynia in three draws and three defeats with a total of nine goals scored and 14 conceded.

“The Board of Directors of Renaissance Derinia would like to inform the world of the team that it has accepted the resignation letter of our former coach Andre Schembri,” the club wrote in a statement.

“Andre felt that this change would benefit our team and with this reason it was decided as his wish was acceptable.”

“We would like to thank Andre for his excellent cooperation throughout his stay with our team. At the same time, we would like to wish him all the best on a personal and professional level since people with his honesty and hard work are unfortunately rare in Cyprus football.”
