Malta national team interim coach Davide Mazzotta has brought in midfielder Matias Garcia and forward Shaisen Attard in his squad following the withdrawals of midfield duo Dylan Scicluna and Ryan Scicluna.
Malta are currently stepping up their preparation ahead of this week’s friendly against Liechtenstein at the National Stadium an the UEFA Nations League clash against Andorra on Tuesday.
Australia-based midfielder Dylan Scicluna pulled out of the squad on Saturday after suffering an injury with his club Western Sydney Wanderers last weekend while Ryan Scicluna, the Marsaxlokk midfielder, pulled out of the squad due to technical reasons.
To make up for their absence, Mazzotta decided to bring experienced midfielder Garcia, who has been a mainstay in the Floriana side who are currently second in the 360 Sports Malta Premier this season.
The Argentine midfielder, who got married last weekend, will be hoping to make the final squad for the upcoming double header after he failed to make the cut for September’s UEFA Nations League clash against Moldova.
On the other hand, this will be Shaisen Attard’s first call-up for the Malta national team.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a bright start of the season with Ħamrun Spartans where he managed to force his way into the first team of the Malta champions.
No doubt, this experience with the national team can be a very important experience for Attard as he bids to establish himself in top-flight football.
