Al Capone Stecca and Rally Inge win major semi-finals

The 41st, 42nd and 43rd meetings of the season were held during the weekend at the Marsa Racetrack. Saturday’s programme heralded the start of the Assikura Speed Race competition for class Premier and Gold trotters with two heats. These heats were held on a mile distance and were won by Italian Al Capone Stecca and Swedish Rally Inge.

From these heats ten trotters made it to the final stage. In the first heat, there was a keen duel in the final 300 metres between Al Capone Stecca (Charles Degiorgio) and Global Undecided (Rodney Gatt). It was the former which gained it ssecond win of the season and in Malta. Arno Dell’Est (Paul Galea) ended in third place from Vincent As (Oliver Briffa) and Shining Armor (Carl Caruana). The winner clocked an average time of 1.13.5” per kilometer.

Condior (Julian Farrugia) which was the early leader of the second heat started to slow doen when the front horses turned for their final straight. Condior was overtaken by Rally Inge driven by Julian’s son, Jonathan J Farrugia, which registered its first win in Malta after sustaining the challenge of Velvet Gio (Rodney Gatt). Condior had to settle for third place from Danilo H.B. (Chris Grech) and Test Drive (Jesmar Gafa’). The winner had an impressive average time of 1.12” per kilometer.  

Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held next Sunday. The first race should start at 1.30pm.
