Watch: Hibernians reach agreement to sign Ukrainian midfielder Sorokin

Hibernians FC have agreed terms to sign Ukrainian midfielder Stanislav Sorokin, the Times of Malta can confirm.

The 24-year-old midfielder is the second overseas player to have joined the Paolites in the last 24 hours after the Premier League club announced on Wednesday the acquisition of Portuguese centre-back Rui Bruno.

Sorokin’s arrival is likely to provide a timely boost for the Paolites who have struggled to show consistent form throughout this season.

The 24-year-old, who represented Ukraine at U-16 level, spent the majority of his career in his country as after coming through the youth ranks of Dynamo Kyiv he donned the colours of Kolos, PFC Lviv and Kolos Kovalivka.

In 2022, he decided to continue his career in Georgia with FC Shevardeni but his stint was only for a few months before returning to Kovalivka.

In August 2022, he moved to Lithuania where he agreed to join top-flight club DFK Dainava where he managed to collect over 60 appearances in the Lithuanian top division.

Sorokin is known for his speed of play and dribbling skill and is likely to provide a fresh impetus to Hibernians’ forward line.

Why is an athlete like Mr Sorokin playing soccer in Malta whilst his compatriots are fighting and dying for their country?
