Floriana became the third team to reach the semi-finals as they scored a goal in each half to overcome Mosta.

It was a deserved victory for the Greens who played the better football and secured qualification with two excellent goals from Fernandinho and Dunstan Vella.

Floriana took the ground running and after eight minutes of play Mosta goalkeeper David Akpan was at his best to keep out Elvis Mashike’s shot on the turn.

On 18 minutes Jork Becerra came close when he hit a firm drive from the distance that just missed the upright with Akpan beaten.

Mosta’s first real opportunity arrived on 32 minutes when Nathan Agius’ shot was pushed away by Floriana goalkeeper Yann Fillion.

But it was Floriana who drew first blood four minutes from half-time.

Dunstan Vella fed Fernandinho on the right and the Brazilian hit a thumping drive that gave no chance to Mosta goalkeeper David Akpan.

After the break, Floriana kept the game under control and on the hour mark Dunstan Vella’s swerving shot flashed past the upright.

Vella did seal his team’s win on 77 minutes when he hit a rasping low drive that gave no chance to Akpan.
