The Assikura Women’s League enters an intense weekend with pivotal matchups as four teams vie for the title.

Mġarr United delivered a strong statement in their recent 2-0 victory over Swieqi United, propelling them to the top spot alongside Swieqi and Hibernians, all tied at 39 points.

Despite missing key players, Mġarr’s triumph over Swieqi was highlighted by Colombian player Valeria Villegas’ brace.

Mġarr faces a critical showdown with Birkirkara, who are desperate to stay in contention for the championship.

Currently fourth with 34 points, Birkirkara must secure a win to revive their title hopes.

The Stripes are at the back of two consecutive goalless draws against Hibernians and Swieqi, relying on the return of goalkeeper Janice Xuereb.

Swieqi, set to confront Hibernians in the opening match on Thursday night, seeks redemption following recent challenges.

Last weekend, Swieqi handed a debut to Serbian midfielder Andela Kricak, formerly with San Ġwann.

Hibernians, boasting the league’s highest scoring record with 65 goals, are poised for their upcoming clashes.

Conversely, Mġarr boasts the league’s stingiest defense, conceding only 10 goals all season.
