The Assikura Women’s League is set for a thrilling finale, with four teams still in contention for the 2024/25 title.

In what has been one of the most competitive title races in recent years, champions Birkirkara, Hibernians, Mġarr United, and Swieqi United are all chasing the coveted trophy as the final round approaches.

Birkirkara, the dominant force in recent seasons, revived their title hopes with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mġarr United last weekend. In their last three matches, they picked up five points with the Stripes keeping two clean sheets in the process, boosted by the return of goalkeeper Janice Xuereb. However, they remain fourth on 37 points, five behind leaders Swieqi, meaning only a win will keep them in the race.

They face Hibernians, who slipped from the top spot after last week’s defeat to Swieqi. The Paolites, currently second on 39 points, have struggled for form in the Top Four phase. Their only victory came in a dramatic 4-3 win over Birkirkara in the opening match, followed by three draws. They must secure a result to avoid being overtaken by both Mġarr and Birkirkara.

Meanwhile, Swieqi sit in pole position with 42 points, holding a three-point cushion over Hibs and Mġarr. They face a tough challenge against Mġarr, the only team to beat them in this phase. That victory reignited Mġarr’s title aspirations, as they now share second place with Hibernians.
