Mosta piled on more misery for struggling Melita as the Blues continued their fine run, registering their third win in five matches.
It was a vital victory for Mosta as they knew a win would lift them amongst the top six. They need to draw against Zabbar St Patrick to play again in the Top Six competition.
Despite their woeful run of just two points out of three relegation six-pointers, the Amateurs made a good start with the only thing missing being an all-important goal.
André was in the thick of the action for Melita and he and Jesus Yepez had the best early chances.
Mosta managed to take the sting out of Melita’s attack in the second half as they came out quickly out of the blocks.
They didn’t expect to be handed their lead by their opponents on 52 minutes.
Nathan Agius bore down on goal, but his shot did not look dangerous only for Andrzej Lubik to let the ball run loose, allowing it to roll over the line.
Melita coach Clive Mizzi made a change after 61 minutes Gyamfi Collins for Yepez as his side threatened to lose the momentum.
Andre was a threat for Melita upfront and he unleashed a fierce shot which the Mosta goalkeeper David Akpan pushed into a corner.
Then Sanchez embarked on a solo run on the right flank but his cross found no takers.
Melita tried to respond but only leaving gaps at the back and were punished eight minutes from time.
Giancarlo Goncalves skillfully turned past Aldair Simanca to hit a fierce shot past Lubik.
