Gilbert Agius is mulling his future at Indonesian club PSIS Semarang, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The former Malta and Valletta forward has been working at PSIS Semarang for the past two-and-a-half years and his contract with the Indonesian top-flight club is set to expire at the end of the season.
Agius took over the reins at PSIS Semarang in February 2023 and helped the club to retain their top flight status when they finished 13th in the 18-team division.
However, in the following season, Agius helped the club to their best-ever placing in the Indonesian championship when they finished sixth overall and just missed out on a top-four spot by two points.
This season, PSIS Semarang are battling to avoid relegation and are currently 16th, on 24 points, just two points away from safety.
It is understood that PSIS Semarang are happy with the work carried out by Agius, so much so that he is the first coach in recent years to remain at the helm of the club for more than one season.
The club have already tabled a new contract offer for Agius but the former Valletta stalwart is taking his time before taking a decision over his future.
Agius is keeping his options open and it is not ruled out that he could end his adventure in Indonesia and return to Maltese football.
