The Malta Premier League announced that it has decided to postpone Saturday’s matches after the government declared it as a Day of Mourning following the death of Pope Francis.
“Saturday’s Match-Week 31 fixtures are being cancelled and rescheduled as in graphic, since Saturday coming has been declared as a day of National mourning,” the Malta Premier League announced.
Initially, Saturday’s programme was due to include four matches from the 360 Sports Malta Premier.
The National Stadium was due to host two matches from the Top Six, namely Sliema Wanderers against Ħamrun Spartans at 3.15pm and Floriana up against Mosta at 5.30pm.
On the other hand, the Tony Bezzina Stadium was due to be the venue of the other Top Six clash between Birkirkara and Marsaxlokk at 3.15pm and the Bottom Six game between Hibernians and Balzan at 5.30pm.
However, the MPL have announced that these matches have been put back by 24 hours and will be played on Sunday at the same venues and on the same kick-off times.ż
Meanwhile, the two Bottom Six clashes that were initially scheduled for Sunday at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, namely Żabbar SP vs Melita at 3.15pm and Gżira United vs Naxxar Lions at 5.30pm have been moved to Monday.
These will be played at the same venue with kick off times set at 6pm and 8.15pm respectively.
