Hibernians and Mġarr United will contest this season’s Assikura Women’s Knock-Out final after claiming commanding victories in their respective semi-final ties.

Hibernians booked their place in a third consecutive final after defeating San Ġwann 3-0. Alexis Espitia opened the scoring on 29 minutes before second-half goals from Martina Borg (67) and Joelma Alves (73) sealed the win for the Paolites, who are now aiming to finally lift the trophy after back-to-back final defeats.

Meanwhile, Mġarr United produced a ruthless performance to dismantle Lija Athletic 8-0. Yanina Mendez gave Mġarr a dream start inside the first minute before a flurry of goals from Rebecca Bajada (15), Yulya Carella (18), Abigail Camilleri (21), Maria Hernandez (23, 71), Nell Zarb Cousin (24), and Valeria Villegas (34) wrapped up a dominant showing.

For Mġarr, this will be a golden opportunity to clinch their first major silverware in the women’s game, having shown consistent progress in recent seasons.

The final is currently scheduled for Thursday, May 1 – a public holiday – with kick-off penciled for 10.30am, an unusual time for a senior competition, particularly a cup final, which might impact crowd attendance. Given the importance of growing the women’s game and enhancing its visibility, a later time slot might be more appropriate to attract a larger audience.
