Ħamrun Spartans goalkeeper Henry Bonello was proud of his performance in his team’s Final Four semi-final victory over Floriana, but said that the final result was due to a strong collective performance from all the players in the squad.
Ħamrun Spartans produced a bright performance to reach the Final Four of the 360 Sports Malta Premier after defeating Floriana 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out after the match ended in a goalless draw after extra-time.
Bonello showed just why he is Malta’s top goalkeeper when the towering custodian saved two penalties during the shoot-out to propel his team to victory.
“Proud to have delivered a strong performance, but achievements like this are never the result of individual effort alone,” Bonello wrote on his social media.
“I’m grateful to be part of a dedicated and talented team whose support and collaboration made this possible. Staying grounded and focused as we continue to grow and push forward – together.”
Bonello heaped praise on the thousands of Ħamrun Spartans supporters who thronged the National Stadium on Monday and said that their support made all the difference.
“A heartfelt thank you to all our loyal supporters who showed up and gave their energy at the game,” Bonello said.
“Your presence and passion truly made a difference.”
Bonello’s performance on Monday came a memorable few weeks for the Malta goalkeeper who was named as the LifeStar Most Valuable Player for Player.
In a statement, the Malta Premier said that Bonello managed to keep four clean sheets in the Spartans five Top Six matches played during the month of April, namely against Birkirkara, Mosta, Floriana and Marsaxlokk.
He was named MVP in the Match-Week 30 goalless draw against Floriana and earned two spots in the Team of the Week across April.
Ħamrun Spartans will have the chance to retain their title on Saturday when they face Birkirkara in the Malta Premier final at the National Stadium, with kick-off set at 6pm.
