Valletta FC strengthened their midfield with the capture of Jackson Mendoza.
The Colombian midfielder has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Maltese Premier League over the past few years, with some excellent displays for his former club Gżira United.
“Valletta FC is delighted to welcome Jackson Mendoza, a Colombian midfield enforcer known for his aggressive pressing, smart positioning and relentless engine,” the club said in a statement.
“Jackson plays with heart, discipline and total control – the perfect fit for a team aiming higher.
“Time to boss the midfield in the #98 white shirt.”
Mendoza arrived in Malta in 2018 when he joined Santa Lucia, but after two seasons, he moved to Gżira United where he spent the past five seasons.
Last season, it was very challenging for the 27-year-old as he was diagnosed with a serious illness. However, Mendoza showed all his resilience as he managed to recover at the start of the year and played the final part of the season with Gżira United.
Mendoza related his human story on the SportsDesk podcast which you can watch here.
Now, Mendoza is looking to take a step up in his career with Valletta FC where he is hopeful that he will help the club be one of the protagonists in their first season back in the top-flight.
So far, Mendoza has racked up 91 appearances, scoring three goals and providing 15 assists.
