Sliema Wanderers have brought back to the club Malta goalkeeper Rashed Al Tumi, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The towering goalkeeper spent the past season at Moldovan club FC Sheriff but struggled for first-team football, and he was keen to return to Maltese football.
However, Al Tumi was tied with a five-year contract with the former Moldovan champions, and the Wanderers needed to open talks with FC Sheriff to find a solution and bring their former goalkeeper back to the club.
Negotiations lasted a few weeks, and a solution was finally reached this week, which will see Al Tumi donning again the colours of the Wanderers.
Al Tumi, who helped the Wanderers to win the FA Trophy in season 2023-24, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, and on Thursday, he attended his first training session with the Wanderers under the charge of coach Paul Zammit.
The capture of Al Tumi is a significant coup for the Wanderers who this summer have been showing more ambition in the transfer market as they seek to challenge for the major honours next season.
The Blues have signed wing back Thiago Espindola, midfielders Miguel Baggio, and Roko Prsa, winger Fernandinho and forward Luke Montebello among others.
