Maltese youth Gunner Elliott has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with League Two’s Chesterfield FC.

Last season, the 17-year-old became the club’s second-youngest ever debutant when he played against Fleetwood Town.

In this pre-season, Elliott has played against higher opposition such as Burton Albion and Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

With the academy, whose Head of Recruitment and Development Officer is ex-Maltese player Justin Tellus, Elliott scored 14 goals in the 2024/2025 campaign.

At the international level, Elliott was called up to Malta’s provisional squad for last June’s World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and the Netherlands.

He represented Malta at U17s and U19s level.

“I am delighted to have signed my first professional contract with the Spireites,” Elliott told the club’s website.

“The first team and academy staff have been truly supportive. I couldn’t have wished for a better 17th birthday present!”
