Haley Bugeja will continue her career with Inter after the Malta international striker pledged her future with the Italian Serie A Femminile giants when putting pen to paper on a new four-year contract.
The news is a huge boost for the Malta international striker, who is being seen as a very important part of Inter’s technical project for the upcoming seasons, and the Italian club is keen to invest in her talents.
“FC Internazionale Milano announces that they have reached an agreement on the contract extension of Haley Bugeja,” the Italian club said in a statement.
“The striker, class 2004, will wear the Blue and Black shirt until June 30, 2029.”
The Italian side is determined to invest in young, talented players, and Bugeja has impressed the club’s technical staff and administration with her growing potential to be offered a new contract.
Bugeja started her career with Mġarr United, where she quickly established herself as one of the most lethal forwards in Maltese women’s football.
Her talents were quickly spotted by Italian Serie A Femminile side Sassuolo, who managed to secure her services.
With the Italian club, Bugeja continued to improve as a player and was seen by many as one of the most talented forwards in European football.
During her two-year stint with Sassuolo, Bugeja made 30 appearances and scored 15 goals.
A move to the American National Women’s Soccer League was next for Bugeja, as in July 2022, she moved to Orlando Pride.
However, Bugeja’s stint in the US was quite difficult as she struggled for first-team football, and in 2023, she finally returned to the Italian Serie A with Inter.
With the Nerazzurre, Bugeja made 32 appearances and scored four goals.
Last season, Bugeja found it tough in the first few months, but ended the campaign in excellent form and netted Inter’s winner against champions Juventus on the final day of the season at the Allianz Stadium.
Bugeja has made 40 appearances for the Malta national team and has scored 24 goals to date. The Malta forward is just two goals away from matching Dorianne Theuma’s all-time scoring record of 26 goals for the women’s national team.
