Swieqi United women’s team has completed the transfer of Bulgaria national team’s forward Aleksandra Yaneva.
The 24-year-old Yaneva joins the Owls as the Maltese outfit gear up their preparations for the upcoming UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign.
Yaneva has 11 caps for Bulgaria with 3 goals. In the 2024/2025 season, she scored 10 goals in 22 appearances for Sion, in Switzerland’s second-tier.
Previously, she was on the books of NSA Sofia – Bulgaria’s powerhouse in women’s football – with whom she scored once in four women’s Champions League matches.
Yaneva becomes Swieqi’s latest signing in a serious of transfers that the club made during this summer transfer window. These include former Birkirkara pair Valentina Rapa and Sara Saliba. In addition, they welcomed back youth player Kaysia Micallef who last season was on the books of Sampdoria.
Swieqi will be facing Moldovan side Agarista SS Anenii Noi in the first qualifying round of the women’s Champions League, on July 30.
In addition, they will launch their title defense in the weekend of August 21-August 23 when the new women’s league starts. Their opening match will be against Mġarr United.
