Malta women’s forward Maria Farrugia will continue her career in English football after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with Bristol City.

Bristol City will be featuring in England’s second-tier, now known as Barclays Women’s Super League 2, in the 2025/2026 season.

Last season, they finished sixth in the 11-team second-tier league.

Farrugia spent the past season on the books of Sheffield United, in the same championship, scoring 8 goals in 22 games across all competitions.

Despite the Blades were relegated to the third-tier, Farrugia left a good impression having also been nominated for the Championship’s Player of the Year award while nominated with two goals for the best goal of the season – which she eventually claimed.

The Gozitan-born player, formerly of Sunderland, Durham and Sheffield, played a key role in Malta’s promotion to League B in the UEFA Women’s Nations League. Farrugia has 11 international goals for her country.
