Golf’s Ryder Cup will return to Spain in 2031, organisers announced Tuesday.
Camiral Golf and Wellness, close to Girona in Catalonia, will host the 48th edition of the biennial competition between Europe and the United States.
“The stunning Costa Brava and Barcelona will provide the backdrop for the 2031 Ryder Cup, welcoming international visitors from across the world to a region renowned for its breathtaking coastline, world-class hospitality and vibrant cultural heritage,” said Ryder Cup Europe in a statement.
Spain hosted the Ryder Cup at Valderrama in Andalusia in 1997, with Europe emerging victorious under Seve Ballesteros as captain.
The 2031 competition will be the first time a continental European country has hosted the event on multiple occasions.
“Hosting the Ryder Cup for the second time — 34 years after the historic edition at Valderrama — will firmly establish Spain as an international benchmark in the organisation of major sporting events,” said Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, president of Spain’s sports council.
“Without a doubt, this designation is also a tribute to the legacy of Spanish golf and to our country’s unwavering commitment to sport.”
Camiral, in the tiny spa town of Caldes de Malavella, has held the Spanish Open three times.
The 2025 Ryder Cup takes place in Farmingdale, New York, in September, with County Limerick, Ireland, hosting in 2027.
The 2029 and 2033 tournaments will be held in the United States, in Chaska, Minnesota, and San Francisco, California, respectively.
