After weeks of speculation about a potential move to Italy, Valletta have confirmed that 19-year-old Jake Azzopardi will commit to the Citizens for the 2025/2026 season.
Azzopardi, who made his Malta debut in the 8-0 defeat to the Netherlands, was linked with a transfer to the Serie C.
Nonetheless, the promising talent will now spend the next season with Valletta as Thane Micallef’s side prepare for their return to the top-flight.
Azzopardi made his senior debut at 17 and was a crucial player in last season’s Challenge League campaign – 19 matches, 3 goals.
He has already made 48 appearances with Valletta, including 20 in the Premier League between 2022 and 2024.
Azzopardi made also four appearances with Valletta U19s in last season’s UEFA Youth League campaign, facing HJK Helsinki of Finland and France’s Auxerre.
“Jake is more than a midfielder. He is a symbol of what Gen V stands for: grit, talent, loyalty — and an unshakable commitment to the Valletta FC badge,” the club said in a statement on their official website.
