Hibernians FC reached an agreement to sign Brazilian defender Joao Teixeira, the Premier League club announced.
Teixeira is a familiar face for Maltese football enthusiasts as the 28-year-old spent the past season with Premier League side Mosta.
“Hibernians FC is proud to announce the signing of João Teixeira, a commanding 28-year-old Brazilian centre back,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“Strong in the air, fearless in the tackle, and ready to fight for the Black & White, João arrives to bring experience, passion, and leadership to our defence.
“Welcome to the Hibs Family, João.”
The Brazilian defender arrives at the Paola club just days before the start of the YoHealth Premier League and will provide more solidity to the club’s backline.
In the last few weeks, Hibernians lost the services of Malta international defender Kurt Shaw, who decided to pursue his career in Italy with Sorrento.
Joao Teixeira is being earmarked to fill the void left by Shaw as the Paolites look to mount a stronger challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Hibernians open their league campaign against Gżira United at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Monday.
