Malta FA launches Jubilee Cup with First Phase pairings

The draws for the First Phase of the Malta FA Jubilee Cup, supported by Enemed, were held on Wednesday, marking the start of this milestone competition.

An explainer about the Malta FA Jubilee Cup.

Organised to celebrate the Malta FA’s 125th anniversary, the tournament brings together clubs from all divisions as well as teams from other member associations.

The First Phase features 45 teams, divided into four groups – North, South, Gozo, and Member Associations. To ensure no group exceeds 12 teams, the North and South groups will begin with a Preliminary Round.

In this round, two teams from each group were drawn, with the winners advancing to the First Phase Knockout stage. In the North group, Għargħur FC will face Dingli Swallows, while in the South group, Mqabba FC will take on St George’s FC. These Preliminary Round matches will be played on August 30 and 31.

Following the Preliminary Round, the First Round will see 12 teams in each of the North, South, and Gozo groups compete for a place in the Second Round. In the Second Round, three matches will be played, with the winners progressing to the Second Phase.

The Member Associations’ path differs slightly. With seven teams involved, three matches will be played in the First Round, while one team, drawn automatically, receives a bye to the Second Round. The automatic qualifier is the representative team from the Inter Amateur Soccer Competition (IASC).

Once the First Phase concludes, 10 teams will progress to the Second Phase.

At this stage, clubs from the Malta Premier League and the Challenge League will join the competition, with all sides battling for a spot in the Final, scheduled for December 8.
