Ħamrun Spartans vs Valletta clash rescheduled to August 31

Ħamrun Spartans are still involved in this season's UEFA competitions.

One of the most highly-anticipated fixtures of the 2025-26 YoHealth Malta Premier, Ħamrun Spartans vs Valletta, has been moved to Sunday, August 31, the league organisers announced.

The match was initially scheduled for Monday, August 25, but that date fell just three days before Ħamrun’s second leg of their UEFA Play Off round tie – either in the Europa League or the Conference League – set to be played away from home.

The tight schedule would have left the Spartans with only a couple of days to prepare, including travel to the host country.

In a statement, the Malta Premier said that due to this fixture change, Match Day 3 matches have also been temporarily postponed to a later date.

“The Malta Premier League has announced that one fixture from Matchday 2 has been rescheduled, while all fixtures from Matchday 3 of the YoHealth Malta Premier have now been postponed to a later date,” a statement said.

“As a result, the previously announced dates, kick-off times, and venues for Matchday 3 are no longer valid.

“This decision was made to allow Ħamrun Spartans sufficient time to prepare and travel for their final European Play-Off match.”

The Spartans are on the brink of history, as victory in their play-off tie would see them become the first Maltese club to reach the League Phase of a UEFA competition.

Ħamrun will kick off their title defence this Sunday against newly-promoted Tarxien Rainbows.

On the other hand, Valletta will play in the championship’s curtain raiser when they take on Birkirkara on Saturday.
