Jurgen Pisani acquitted of match-fixing charges, joins Żabbar St Patrick

Jurgen Pisani has been acquitted from all his match-fixing charges and has agreed to join Premier League side Żabbar St Patrick.

The veteran defender was on the books of Żabbar SP last April when his season was cut short as he was charged with match-fixing charges concerning a Premier League match between his former club Santa Lucia and Birkirkara.

Pisani had been accused that he tried to bribe an opposing player by offering money during the match.

The former Floriana and Gżira United appeared in front of the MFA’s Control, Disciplinary and Ethics Committee – Integrity Panel.

However, Pisani was not found guilty of his charges, and his temporary suspension was lifted.

“The Malta Football Association announces that Jurgen Pisani and Santa Lucia FC have been acquitted of all charges following proceedings before the Control, Disciplinary and Ethics Committee – Integrity Panel,” the local governing body of football said.

“These proceedings were initiated in April 2025 by the Malta FA in relation to the match between Santa Lucia FC and Birkirkara FC on 3 May 2024. The charges concerned alleged breaches of Section IX of the Malta FA Regulations on Bribery and Betting in Football Matches.

“After careful consideration of the evidence presented, the Integrity Panel determined that the charges were not proven.

“Accordingly, Mr Pisani’s temporary suspension has been lifted.”

During the case, Pisani was assisted by Dr Edward Gatt and Dr Ian Micallef while Sta Lucia was represented by Ezekiel Psaila.

The MFA body’s ruling paved the way for Pisani to resume his playing career and his former club Żabbar SP moved quickly to secure his signature.

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Jurgen Pisani,” Żabbar SP said in a statement.

“Jurgen, 32, is back to Zabbar St. Patrick following his loan spell during the latter part of last season.

“Jurgen is a solid and experienced defender whose leadership and qualities at the back will surely be an important asset for the team.

“His return adds both stability and strength to our defensive line as we look ahead with ambition.”
