Valletta FC have completed the signing of versatile Portuguese defender Evandro Gomes.
With the summer transfer window coming to a close in less than 48 hours, the Citizens were determined to try and bring in one more reinforcement for coach Thane Micallef in time for Sunday’s much-awaited YoHealth Malta Premier League clash against champions Ħamrun Spartans.
The 28-year-old defender is a familiar face in Maltese football, having worn the colours of Balzan and Santa Lucia over the past two years, and provides different defensive options for the Citizens.
“Valletta Football Club is pleased to confirm the signing of Evandro Gomes, a versatile Portuguese defender known for his athleticism and adaptability across multiple positions on the left flank,” the Premier League club’s statement said.
“Born in Portugal, Evandro brings a wealth of experience from his time across Portugal and Malta. Now cleared and ready, Evandro joins Valletta, marking a valuable addition to our defensive lineup.
“Known for his strong tactical awareness, ability to support both defence and attack, and consistency on the field, Evandro enhances depth and competition across the backline.”
Prior to his arrival in Maltese football, Gomes was on the books of several Portuguese teams, including Felgueiras and Arouca, before plying his trade in Cyprus with Liopetriou and Lublinianka in the Polish league.
