France goalkeeper Mike Maignan has not had a repeat of the calf tear which kept him out of the last World Cup, AC Milan said on Monday.
Maignan limped off the field injured seven minutes after half-time of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over with Bologna in Serie A on Sunday night, and was replaced by Pietro Terracciano.
But Milan said in a statement said that tests carried out on Monday morning excluded a serious injury similar to the one which kept him out of action for months between 2022 and 2023.
Milan added that defender Strahinja Pavlovic also escaped a serious injury to his left thigh, add that “both players will be assessed on a day-by-day basis”.
The 30-year-old has suffered a string of injuries since signing for Milan in 2021, with a previous calf muscle tear making him miss Les Bleus’ run to the final in Qatar nearly three years ago.
France play 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Iceland and Ukraine next month, with Didier Deschamps’ side top of Group D after two fixtures.
Milan beat Bologna thanks to a Luka Modric goal scored in the 61st minute, the 40-year-old’s first since signing for the club as a free agent in the summer.
Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan sit fifth in Italy’s top flight and level on six points with Roma, who fell to a shock 1-0 home defeat to Torino, and promoted Cremonese.
