Mġarr United remain flawless after four matches in the Assikura Women’s League as they secured a 2-1 victory over Birkirkara, maintaining sole leadership with maximum points.
The Greens struck twice in the first half through Valeria Villegas and Yanina Mendez, two of their standout performers, to establish a commanding advantage.

After the break, substitute Gabriella Zahra pulled one back immediately for the Stripes. However, despite Birkirkara’s efforts, Mġarr held firm to see out the win.
The defeat leaves the Stripes nine points adrift of the leaders after just four games.
Behind Mġarr, Swieqi United and Hibernians now share second place on nine points each.
In their direct clash, the Paolites drew first blood through Natalee Geren’s early strike on four minutes. Yet, the Owls mounted a quick response, overturning the score before half-time courtesy of Sara Saliba and Salamatu Abdulai.
Elsewhere, San Ġwann and Valletta shared the spoils in a goalless stalemate, earning their first point of the campaign.

Mġarr, Hibs clash headlines MD5
Matchday five of the Assikura Women’s League serves up a high-stakes showdown as leaders Mġarr United take on Hibernians in a direct battle at the top.
The Greens enter the clash with maximum points after four matches, boasting the league’s best attack (13 goals scored) and the tightest defence (just one goal conceded – last weekend against Birkirkara).
For Mġarr, this is another litmus test as they look to extend their flawless run, with last season’s memorable cup final victory over Hibs – their first-ever silverware – still fresh in mind.
Hibernians, meanwhile, will be eager to respond after falling narrowly to Swieqi United in the previous round. The Paolites sit on nine points, with 12 goals scored and three conceded, and know that victory would put them level with the leaders.
Elsewhere, Swieqi United face Valletta and start as strong favourites to extend their winning streak to three. The Owls are chasing Mġarr after recovering from their opening-day defeat to the Greens, also having celebrated Super Cup glory over the same opponents.
Birkirkara, currently fourth, meet San Ġwann in what is shaping to be a must-win encounter for the Stripes. Nine points off the summit, Birkirkara will be determined to secure only their second league victory of the campaign and begin to climb back into contention.
