Birkirkara will be without their prolific goal scorer, Franklin Sasere, for a considerable spell after the Nigerian forward picked up a serious knee injury during Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Naxxar Lions.
Sasere, who joined Birkirkara in the close season, had been the protagonist for the Stripes in their last two outings after netting both goals in his team’s 2-0 win over Mosta, and in midweek, he grabbed the winner against Naxxar Lions.
However, Sasere’s run was cut short after picking up an injury in the final stages of Wednesday’s match and was replaced by Luiz Cordova.
Coach Gianluca Festa was visibly disappointed with Sasere’s injury and confirmed that the forward is set for a long spell on the sidelines.
“Unfortunately, it’s a long-term injury, and we will miss him. He was in very good form, scoring three goals in his last two matches,” Festa said.
“It’s now up to us, together with the club, to make sure we are well-covered in attack and find the best possible replacement.”
Birkirkara will be in action on Sunday when they face Marsaxlokk at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
