Ryan Vella’s side struck early through Amber Grech and held firm to protect their slender lead, sealing a fifth consecutive victory. The Greens now sit three points clear at the top of the standings ahead of champions Swieqi United, whom they face in a highly anticipated clash next week.
Swieqi kept up the pressure with a convincing 6-1 triumph over Valletta, inspired by a hat-trick from Salamatu Abdulai. The Owls have now won four games on the bounce as they chase down the leaders.
Hibernians slipped to third place on nine points following their defeat to Mġarr. They remain three points ahead of Birkirkara, who cruised past San Ġwann 7-2. Patricia Lamanna and Izabella Camilleri both netted twice for the Stripes in the victory.

Leaders Mġarr face champions Swieqi in Round 2 opener
The second round of the Assikura Women’s League begins with a highly-anticipted clash as champions Swieqi United host early leaders Mġarr United.
The two sides already share plenty of history this season. Mġarr stunned Swieqi on Matchday 1 with a 2-0 victory, only for the Owls to respond by winning their next four matches and lifting the Assikura Women’s Super Cup against the Greens with a commanding 3-0 win.
Dorianne Theuma’s team currently sit three points behind Mġarr and will be determined to avoid slipping six adrift at this early stage. Swieqi’s experience and attacking firepower will be key as they seek to reassert their dominance.
Mġarr, meanwhile, are enjoying a dream campaign under Ryan Vella. The Greens boast the league’s meanest defence, having conceded just once across five games, and their perfect start has them looking every bit like genuine title contenders.
Elsewhere, Hibernians – third with nine points – aim to recover from back-to-back defeats against Swieqi and Mġarr when they meet San Ġwann, who have collected just a single point so far.
Birkirkara, on six points, take on Valletta (one point) as the Stripes look to close the gap on the top three and keep pressure on Hibernians.
