Żabbar St Patrick ended their wait for a first win in the YoHealth Malta Premier when they overcame the challenge of struggling Gżira United at the Centenary Stadium.

Aniello Parisi’s side headed into the match a bit under pressure as they had failed to record a win after their opening six outings.

But on Sunday, the Saints struck early on, and from then on, they never looked back as they strolled to an important win.

While the Saints will be pleased with their win, the result puts more pressure on Gżira United and coach Clive Zammit as the Maroons remain second-from-bottom on three points, and are still looking for their first win.

Żabbar started brightly and took the lead on 14 minutes when Zean Leonardi sped inside the area and managed to slide the ball past goalkeeper Karl Sargent.

The Saints almost doubled their lead on 57 minutes when Brian Gambarte saw his shot cleared off the line by Gżira defender Clayton Failla.

Żabbar wrapped up the points 15 minutes from time when substitute Mario Fontanella was floored inside the area by David Xuereb, and from the spot Gambarte made no mistake.
